Mission drive & policies
First of all, let’s get one thing straight: this is not a blog. It is a website. I will not go into the technical difference, but let us just say that it is essentially a matter of semantics. This is because Magda once forbade me to start a blog. I have forgotten why she did so originally, but when I told her I was starting this website for us she said, “just so long as it isn’t a blog. I don’t want everyone to know when we do or do not have sex.” Fair enough. So topping the list of behavioral guidelines is Policy #1: a reasonable respect for privacy.
The reason I wanted to build this site in the first place was to make it easier to document the growth of little Adam, for us and for all the family and friends who are so far away from us. I know that no website can compete with being in the same timezone or even on the same continent, but I’m doing what I can. And beyond the obvious emphasis on our son, I really wanted to get at least a little bit serious about recording and reporting on this isoglossal life that is so interesting to us in so many ways, and that brings us so much joy, more and more all the time.
Be warned: if you send me pictures I may cram them in here. If you write especially funny, interesting, or important words to me, I may paste them in. If you don’t want me to do that, send me a cease-and-desist, and I will (see policy #1). If I publish anything for which I do not own the copyright, I will say so.
Policy #2: while trying to document life as it comes, I will do my best not to shock anyone too much. That said, I know that my mother has heard the F-word because I saw “Get Shorty” with her, and it’s got Dennis Farina in it.
Finally, Policy #3 can best be stated by quoting two very white philosophers of our times, MacGyver: “with all due respect, I do what I do the way I do it”; and Vanilla Ice: “anything less than the best is a felony.”

Hey I didn’t know Vanilla Ice could actually speak! Thanks for adding to the dust bunnies in my head.

Ruh-roh. Anonymous sounds a tiny bit like a stalker. Do they have those on your isogloss? Besides, you know very well that you also have at least two sisters and a niece who read your “website” religiously. And as far as I know, none of us want to hear about your sex life or lack thereof. So there.

I always thought anything less than the best was a simple misdemeanor. I had better watch my step.

[...] Happy anniversary, sweetheart. One anniversary present is a new ‘website’ (because I know how you hate blogs). Another present to you is this, and I’m using our new site to state it publicly: I am [...]
