Boys’ reports — the missing files
In the turmoil of the autumn recently ended there were a few missing boys’ reports, as well as reduced photographic evidence of the boys’ continued existence. Adam’s fourth (! — yeah, !) birthday came and went with hardly a whimper, a fairly seminal Christmas has just wrapped, and now Alek’s second anniversary with us is bearing down hard, but if you took this site’s word for it, none of this would be of much significance at all.
it breaks my heart that it’s so hard to both be with the boys and document them, and more so that lately I’ve managed to do what feels an awful lot like neither. Inevitably, any time the camera comes out, so does the nagging, browbeating, photographically frustrated and disappointed stage-dad. If the boys are not also screaming in the pictures that finally make it out of the camera, well, it’s a Festivus miracle!
We’ve settled well into our new place, in spite of the tightness space-wise. In fact, it seems that the lack of space is compensated for in warm, fuzzy feelings of well-being, and it’s not overstating the case to say that we love our new apartment & its situation. The boys, along with us, are happy to have various aunties and uncles as neighbors, not to mention all the extra space for all their toys, and yesterday Magda and I rearranged to great positive effect. When I retrieve a few cables from work I hope to make the little TV that came with the place iTunes-friendly so they can watch “Bob The Builder” in their own room until their little heads explode in the theoretical peace and putative quiet of their relatively spacious play/bedroom.
Oh, and new rule? No toys in the front room.
As the boys grow older and larger, they also grow more brotherly, though any male who has had a brother knows that this word has some rather complicated layers of meaning. There is more playing together, sure, but with that comes increased crushing and a preponderance of fistfuls of hair strewn about. Also noise.
Then there are moments of mature and placid silence. Sometimes for up to ten seconds at a stretch.
I said stop kicking that god damn seat.

What’s that harness thing Alek’s wearing on the plane? Is it specific to airline safety or just one of those leash things to let him walk around semi-freely?
Oh, and I love the matching Thomas sweatshirts. Only 57% of the photos in this post contained TTE paraphernalia.

Erik, that harness Alek is wearing in the upper photo is “just” a baby-leash, not an airline safety thing, unless you consider being able to use it to restrain him from battering down the cockpit door and wresting the controls from the pilot to be airline safety-related.
Finally breaking down and buying that thing changed our lives, though he is still far more out of control than we would like. Medication may help.
Actually, Erik, the TTTE ratio is closer to 100%, if you count unseen clothing items such as TTTE tank tops, underpants, and tights.

1) In the scenario where “medication may help”, who’s taking the medication?
2) Please tell me they make TTTE tights in adult sizes!!

We just found out we’re having another boy, too. Already So treats Teruaki more like a big brother than like a parent most of the time and very often roughhouse does turn to tears. I can only imagine with three of them. Due May 21.
You’ve never sent me your address. Or did I just miss it somewhere? I didn’t pickle okra this year, but I do have some other crap for you. Or for the Bulgarian authorities, whoever gets it first.
