These are great; nice to hear from Magda.

Before we had kiddos, I suggested we give them the surname of the person they most resembled.

Which I thought was a good idea. Until someone said "Then I guess you'll be naming them either Kruschev or Eisenhower."

M: You sweet girl. And what a fox!
J: If the drawing in question is the one I brought last year, I am touched that you have kept and displayed it.

I'm a big proponent of eye-witness testimony.

Personally, I hope that my children inherit as little as possible of my physical appearance.

My favorite family-resemblance-in-pictures story is how your mother, on seeing an old and stylized black-and-white photo portrait of my father at six years old, mistook it for an artist's pencil drawing of Adam at two and said, "That doesn't look much like him".

Jane, to be honest, for a very long time I thought that my parents had adopted me. Well, until somebody pointed out the nose which is definitely something inherited from my father's side.
Misanthropy, though, appears to have come from nowhere.

Erik, I'll pretend I don't know the word "tenuous." Thanks for supporting JDS's argument, anyway. Nice to know it works for some people;)

Elsa, ditto!

Oh Sweet Sister Lady, when I first saw Adam in person, I saw a good deal of resemblance to you: the almond eyes, the crest of the forehead, his smile, and his fine-boned gracile qualities (the S family is plagued by blockhead syndrome). Plus, you both smelled ever-so-delicately of vanilla cookies.

Missing you!

p.s. When you receive the impending package, please open it out of sight of the boys. It contains their Christmas gifts (<em>unwrapped</em>, hence the need for mystery) and a bottle of rooster sauce. Your gift, sad to saw, is still on the wrong side of the ocean.

Any argument based on babies looking alike is pretty tenuous, I'm afraid. You could prove lots of stuff that way! I wouldn't worry about it though. I'm sure that, as their minds and bodies develop, more resemblance will appear between the boys and their mother.

JDS's argument is a strong one, too.

I saw that photo of you on Flickr either last night or this morning and was astounded at how much it reminds me of Alek's photo.

Family resemblance is a weird thing. The top half of my face is Dad; the bottom half is Mom. When my Dad's family looks at me, they see nothing but their family features and likewise for my Mom's family. I get my misanthropy from both sides, however.
