The days when a single bottle of this chili sauce would have lasted us a full year are long gone. Our friend E. brought the predecessor of the one pictured above, and it was nearly a year to the day that we drained the last dregs from it and cracked open its successor, which arrived in September this year in my mother’s luggage, enthusiastically wrapped in multiple layers of 80-mil plastic and duct tape. As the photo illustrates, it is definitely not on track to make it to next Labor Day. Our stepped-up production of curries, spring rolls, the recently mentioned scorching soup and, most recently, falafel, has been putting an undue strain on the strategic chili-sauce reserves.
So this is not so much a post as a cry for help: any readers who are already planning on putting a package in the mail in the next month or so are highly encouraged to throw in a bottle of Sriracha from the good folks at Huy Fong. As Magda put it recently, “I don’t know if I can stay married to you if we don’t have Sriracha.”

Can that stuff be shipped to you or will it be confiscated? I ask merely out of curiosity.

Consider it done. Or, uh, consider that I’ll do it. Since I was looking for a properly sized box to pack your stuff just before I read this entry, it seems my cosmic obligation to send it.
No, really! Previous experiences of me not shipping packages notwithstanding, I’m gonna ship this one. Like, soon. For realsies.
This should in no way discourage others from errands of mercy.

Oh, but I’ll be requiring your falafel recipe. Please and thank you.

There should be an “actually” before “be” by the way. I have a hard time believing it wouldn’t get somehow lost in transit.

I’m sending you guys something, too, for the X-holiday, so I’ll throw in a bottle. What the hell. Sriracha is certainly in keeping with the holiday spirit.

The sauce is bought. (Man, that sounded suspect. “The sauce is bought.” “The eagle flies at midnight.”) Now I just have to contrive a suitably chile-retardant sheath to protect your gifts from any splattery in-transit incident, and it’ll be on its way.
