Good enough for the Aztecs

Loathsome to such as are not acquainted with it…they make diverse sorts of [chocolate], some hot, some cold, and some temperate, and put therein much of that “chili”; yea, they make paste thereof, the which they say is good for the stomach and against the catarrh.
–Jose de Acosta, Jesuit missionary [via Wikipedia's History of Chocolate]

I love things that are “loathsome to such as are not acquainted with it.”

So chili is supposed to work against a runny nose? My system must be wired all wrong. Also, did the Maya not know about chocolate’s true best pairing: peanut butter?
Hope you enjoyed it. And happy birthday!

I’m with Juliloquy: chocolate and peanut butter. Mmmmmmmm.
Happy birthday. I didn’t know it was your birthday but will pretend that the thing I’ve been meaning to get in the mail to you for about a month now is a birthday present. To complete the charade, when said item arrives weeks and weeks (and weeks) from now, you should also pretend it is a birthday present.
