Away to the south
I had a dream about our holidays.
Was it a nice dream or a nightmare?
It was nice.
Did we have any kids in this dream?
No.
Below is my view as I depart from work. I will not see it for some time. I will not miss it.

Our long awaited Dalmatian vacation begins today(!) We will be away for some time. With kids.

New hosting — problems solved (we hope)
Recent problems with access to this site have led us to move to a new server. I mention this only because I know that some visitors were getting error pages of various flavors both before and after the move, rather than the urinating toddlers and defeatist screeds they’d expected. I hope that all the access problems, which both precipitated the move and resulted from it, have now been resolved. Being a realist, however, I know this may not be the case so please let us know via email (sgazzetti and gmail but with an ‘at’ sign between them) if you continue to have any problems with this site. Technical problems, I mean, not quarrels with our parenting techniques.
Thanks to all who alerted us to the problems. We rely on your input to keep those defeatist screeds coming.

Surf ducky

On Sunday we wandered over to Solkan, the village whose edge merges with Nova Gorica’s at our doorstep.

I’m told the residents of 1,006-year-old Solkan loathe this modernist fountain, as it’s on the site of an old, tasteful marble one destroyed in the First World War. Since we weren’t alive to enjoy that classic, we feel free to dig the whale’s tail/propeller shape of its replacement.
Adam, who is entranced by this fountain’s rushing, swooping jet of water, happened to have brought his set of rubber duckies with him.
This is like crack for a two-year-old.

Mama enjoyed it, too.

But eventually it was time to go.

Yes, there was ice cream.

Good enough for the Aztecs
Loathsome to such as are not acquainted with it…they make diverse sorts of [chocolate], some hot, some cold, and some temperate, and put therein much of that “chili”; yea, they make paste thereof, the which they say is good for the stomach and against the catarrh.
–Jose de Acosta, Jesuit missionary [via Wikipedia’s History of Chocolate]
