New arrival
Yes, I realize that the headline is about as dull as could be. Months ago it occurred to me that I might not have the time or the focus to write a coherent birth announcement post in the turmoil of the actual event, so I began a draft entitled “World’s Youngest Man Born”. Then about a month later the Onion actually published such a story. I guess this shows that my instincts are sharp, at any rate. Though they still haven’t done anything with my “U.N. Beekeepers Deployed to Honey-Stricken Liberia” idea…
Where was I?
Oh, right. We have a new child, ladies and gentlemen of the internet. Aleksander Julian Surnameredacted was born in Šempeter pri Gorici this morning at 00.20, weighing in at 3 kilos (6 pounds 9 ounces) and with a length of 50 centimeters (19.6 inches).
Both baby and mother are displaying the usual number of toes &c and are in fine fettle. Alek demonstrated a powerful set of lungs and showed strong teat-latching tendencies immediately. Magda expressed interest in running a marathon before opting instead for a nap.
The winner of the isoglossia baby pool is the kilowatthour, who gets the deep satisfaction of having been absolutely correct in public about something super-mega. Emailing of physical address will result in snailmailing of official isoglossia commemorative baby postcard sometime in the summer, probably.
Bafflingly, Magda was somewhat tetchy about the idea of photos of the actual delivery circulating on the internet. Nevertheless, I managed to sneak this one past her:

With Alek’s birth Adam has been promoted from Baby to Boy, First Class. He seems happy enough about having a (very) little brother, as this photo taken in the hospital nursery attests:
Regular posting on www.isoglossia.com will resume in 2025.

congratulations! this is a good year to be born…

Congrats, Papa Squared. I’m so pleased all are doing well. I’m a bit disappointed in Magda for not running the marathon, though.
And, by the way, excellent middle name. I’ve decided you named him after me, and I’m beaming.

Congratulations! You’ll soon discover that having two babies is actually EASIER than just the one. No, really.
Good luck.

Welcome Alek! I guess Lilit won’t have to open up a fortune-telling business after all. Best wishes to everyone.

Good on ye.
Another wee bairn for your clan.
Although, I’m disappointed that he couldn’t hold his post until properly relieved on the 20th.

Hey, YAY! Welcome, Alek. I’m so glad all went well and I’m wishing you (pl.) the best as you adjust to being a family of 4.
(PS: I’m glad Magda didn’t lose any toes while giving birth. Also, jdog, the middle name clearly is a nod to ME.)
