Nova Gorica viewed from the heart of the Goriška Brda wine region.

We’ve spent the last week in the very enjoyable busy-ness of having a house-guest, with the attendant day-trips and meal-preparation, cheese-buying and wine-drinking… the typical activities for sending off summer in the company of a very close but regrettably distant-dwelling friend. Em arrived last week bearing for Magda her full legal allowance of cinnamon Altoids^® and boarded a Firenze-bound train on Sunday. We showed her as much of our neighborhood as Adam would permit. He loved her and will miss her, as will we all. Safe return, Em, safe return.

   Oooohhhh. Dear friends bearing gifts of hot/spicy things. It doesn’t get much better than that for you does it? Now you need to line up someone to bring you Blenheim’s or Sri Lankan Ginger Ale, although I imagine Altoids are easier to transport.

   I happily filled the space in my luggage vacated by the 16 tins of Altoids with 2 lovely bottles of Slovenian wine, thanks to you, J. Also, although I didn’t have to declare it at customs, my liver is still comprised of the 14 or so bottles I managed to drink whilst visiting. Viva rose!
