3×3 #8: Lego®bots
My darling wife and son are in Poland visiting family, so I’m left to my own devices here in exciting Nova Gorica for a couple of weeks. While I miss them immediately any time they go away, there is a certain quiet satisfaction to accomplishing various projects in the absence of a helpful toddler. For example, it’s virtually impossible to construct a decent Lego® robot with Adam around. He has an innate horror and loathing for robots and smashes them to bits before they can do him any harm.
So of course, the first thing I did after dropping Adam and Magda off at the airport was to race home and build Lego robots unmolested to my heart’s content. Regard:

Note to grandparents: to minimize robotophobic damage, keep the boy well away from the monitor. Hurry home, Adam, and smash these loathsome robots.

A couple of weeks without Adam to protect you from the Lego Bot menace? Dude. You’re brave.

Tell me about it. Now I’ve made all these robots, I feel all paranoid and creeped out, like Karen Black in…*Draws blank*. *Sighs* “Trilogy of Terror”? *Considers googling*. Whatever.

Karen Black was all paranoid and creeped out in a lot of stuff, dude, including (if memory serves) “The Love Boat.” But it’s likely Trilogy of Terror you’re thinking of.
As for those robots, their dissembling smiles unnerve me.

(Unlikely but merciful: my typo-flawed googling for “trilorgy of terror” yielded no fruit. Phew.)

Are those bots where you left them? Have you checked?

LegoBots in Paris
Ahh, the famous Trilogy of Terror! I certainly hope you won’t be watching
THAT all alone without Magda!
Maybe you could just, like, take their heads off before you go to sleep or somethin.

Dude, I also notice that most of your “Geeky” posts come about when you are alone in the house for days at a time. I knew that girl was a good influence on you.

Considering that your lovely spouse and angelic son are away, I’m a bit disturbed that 7 of the 9 robots are smiling, 1 of the 9 is sad, and the other robot is exhibiting both the facial and legs spread expression of a robot in need of an enema. All in all, a happy crew that they’re away. Is it the robots facially indicating their joy (well in 7 of 9 case)? Or are you inputting your own feeling of temporary relief…which would be understandable since Nova Gorica is the happening place.

Darko, do not attribute to
malicerelief what can be explained by incompetence. Our Lego® pack shipped with only one possible mouth configuration, and it wasn’t until ‘bot #8 that I thought of turning the non-frown upside down. Getting from there to #9’s rictus did not require great intellectual effort on my part.Or you can figure that the majority are happy because there’s no violent toddler around to dismember them.

If you get a chance to go here, it seems LEGO teamed up with Carnegie-Mellon University to come up with a whole robot education program. Why, by the time your family is all re-united, you may have been able to create robots to do all of the chores in the house. Even Adam may be impressed such that destruction would be replaced by appreciation.
